« Is man inherently wicked and corrupt, or on the contrary good and perfectible? The Old Testament does not, far from it, pronounce in favour of the first hypothesis: the fact that Adam and Eve disobey God is not called sin; nowhere is it even simply suggested that this disobedience had the effect of corrupting the human being. (...) In fact, this disobedience even seemed to fit, in God's designs, for it is precisely because man has been expelled from paradise that he possesses the power to build his own history. »

« The paradox of love lies in the fact that two beings become one and yet remain two. »

« Sleep is the only situation that suits inactivity, awakening is the only one where laziness should have no part. The paradox is that today many people are half asleep when they are awake, and half awake when they are asleep, or willing to sleep. In order not to be bored or boring, which is obviously one of the main conditions of love, one must be fully awake: to be active in thought, in feeling, with one's eyes and ears, throughout the day, without merely receiving or hoarding, without wasting your time. It is utopian to believe that life can be compartmentalized. One cannot be productive in the field of love without being productive in all other fields. Productivity excludes such a division of labour. To love, we must stand in a state of intense awakening, of powerful vitality, which necessarily implies a productive and active orientation in many spheres of life. »
